Imagine if every marketing dollar you spent tied directly to a number on your P&L.

What a marketing strategy earns you
A marketing strategy is the plan that sits above every tactic. It decides where your marketing dollars go, what each one is expected to return, and in what order the work happens. Get it right and every channel downstream pulls toward the same number. Get it wrong and you’re funding motion instead of growth.
our process
How we work it
It's the same method that runs under everything we do: diagnose, plan, execute. At the whole-marketing level, that means understanding where the business stands, building the plan to move it, and running that plan while the numbers tell us what to adjust.
-
Diagnose
We start by understanding the business: revenue drivers, margins, ideal customers, and marketing performance. By identifying what’s working, what isn’t, and where opportunities exist, we build a strategy grounded in reality.
-
Plan
We build the route from where you are to where you’re going: which channels earn a place, how the budget splits across them, what each is expected to return, and the order it all happens in. Every line ties to a number, so you can see what the plan is supposed to do before a dollar moves.
-
Execute and adjust
Then we put the plan to work. We track performance, adjust based on results, and focus investment where it creates the greatest return. Powered by Mileage Intelligence™, the strategy evolves as the numbers change, keeping the plan responsive and relevant.
What a strategy is made of
A strategy isn't a document you file. It's a working plan with parts that each do a job, and each one is a place a business either finds leverage or leaves it on the table.
- Business-model read
Starts with how you make money: margins, revenue sources, what a best-fit customer is worth. The plan is built on your economics.
- competitive position
Maps who’s competing for the same buyers and where the open ground is, so spend goes where you can win instead of where the fight is most expensive.
- channel mix & budget
Decides which channels earn a place and how the budget splits across them, each with a target return, so nothing runs because it’s expected to.
- targets & forecast
Sets the numbers the plan answers to, leads, cost per lead, cost to acquire, and what each channel is expected to produce, so you know what working looks like before it starts.
- the roadmap
Sequences the work: what gets built first, what runs in parallel, what waits, with the decision points that keep the plan from stalling.
- ongoing optimization
Reads the results as they come in and moves the plan toward what’s returning, because a strategy that never changes stops being a strategy.
AI Search optimization
The AI-era visibility layer
A plan built today has to account for where your buyers look, and more of them are getting their answer from AI before they ever reach a results page. So AI-search visibility is a line in the plan. That’s the work behind AI Search Optimization, and the full approach is here.

What's included in a marketing strategy?
A marketing strategy is the plan that decides where your marketing dollars go, what each one is expected to return, and in what order the work happens. Ours has six parts: the economics of your business, who you’re competing with and where the open ground is, which channels earn a place and how the budget splits across them, the target each channel answers to, the sequence of work, and the review cadence that moves the plan toward what’s returning. Every line ties to a number, so you can see what the plan is supposed to do before a dollar moves.
Do we need a fractional CMO or a marketing strategy agency?
It depends on whether your gap is leadership or execution. A fractional CMO gives you a senior marketing mind for a few days a month, and you still need people to build and run the work. A strategy agency builds the plan and executes it with a team already in place. If you have channels running and nobody deciding where the money goes, fractional leadership can be the right call. If you need the plan and the hands, that’s us. The common failure of fractional leadership is a good plan with nobody to run it.
How much should we be spending on marketing?
Work back from what a customer is worth to you. Take your average customer value, your close rate on qualified leads, and how many new customers you want this year, and you get the cost per lead you can afford and the budget that supports it. That arithmetic beats a percentage-of-revenue rule, because a firm with a $40,000 customer and a firm with a $4,000 customer cannot spend the same way. We run that math in the first two weeks, and it sets everything else in the plan.
What's a marketing retainer, and is it worth it?
A retainer buys ongoing work: a team planning, building, and adjusting month to month against targets set at kickoff. It earns its place when the work compounds, which marketing does. Search position, content, and brand all build on what came before, and stopping resets the clock. It’s the wrong shape when you need one defined deliverable and nothing after it, and we’ll say so when that’s the case. What you should expect from any retainer is a number to judge it by, reported every month.
Can you build the strategy if our team executes it?
Yes, and some of our best engagements run that way. You get the plan, the channel targets, the sequence, and the measurement framework, and your team executes. We’ll be blunt about the risk: a plan handed to a team without capacity becomes a document nobody opens. So we size it against the hours you have, and what we hand over is a plan your team can run. If capacity changes later, we can pick up the channels you’d rather not carry.
What’s Mileage Intelligence™?
On a strategy engagement it reads how your market searches, where competitors are winning, and which demand is reachable at what cost, so the plan starts from measured ground. It is the AI infrastructure we built for ourselves, so it isn’t a product we sell and it isn’t a line on your invoice. Every engagement we run through it makes the next read sharper.
